I have struggled with weight for most of my life. At the age of 10, I went to Weight Watchers with my mother and grandmother and became one of the youngest lifetime members when I reached my goal of losing 12 pounds. I have not been back to my goal weight since then!
When I graduated from high school, I was a little overweight, but at university graduation, I was 40 pounds heavier. Over the next 20 years, I would gain 20 more pounds and at 41 years old, my 5'2" frame had ballooned to 190 pounds.
In 2012, I started counting calories and exercising and did manage to lose 28 pounds, but when summer arrived, my weight started to creep back up again.
By May, 2015, I was almost back to my heaviest and desperate to get the weight off again. That's when a "Low Carb" Google search led me to stumble upon LCHF (Low Carb/High Fat). I couldn't believe that you could eat fat and lose weight. I was also concerned about my cardiac risk since my father died at 58 of heart disease.
What I discovered was truly life changing. I lost weight, my blood pressure normalized, and my blood lipid profile improved with diet changes alone.
This way of eating is a lifestyle change for me and I can't imagine going back!
Faye spent many years dieting, losing, and gaining while raising four girls, and running a busy household. Now she is busy running her own business!
While she would still like to lose a little more weight, her doctor is very pleased with her health and her test results speak for themselves. It was a challenge to change old habits but this new way of eating has become second nature.
Being at my heaviest ever for several years and not enjoying the feeling of puffing with heart palpitations when walking, not able to bend at the waist and all those problems that go along with excess weight besides fearing many different health ailments at my door ...I finally made the decision to give LCHF a try, after researching and with help of Keto Solution, I was on my way. I slowly began to feel less anxious about being hungry or thinking of food constantly and no more cravings for carbs and sugars. My weight also slowly came off and has stayed off. I can fast comfortably and need two meals a day while feeling full for the day. I have lost total of 40 lbs and my doctor tells me I have the "blood work of a 50 year old" . I am a happy man at 65 years old and will continue on the LCHF way of eating.
Having struggled my whole adult life with weight I now feel I have found a way of eating that works for me. Inflammation was a big part of my life as well and LCHF has played a big role in reducing my inflammation and my weight at the same time! I struggle with carbohydrate sensitivity and LCHF has taught me where my levels are best and that the need for many meals/snacks in a day are not necessary. Our bodies need to rest from foods on a regular basis. There were lots of unnecessary habits to break but it all has become natural to me now to have grasped this way of losing some unwanted body weight and feeling healthy along the way. I still need to lose more weight and will do it slowly by adjusting my foods on LCHF, movement and motivation!!! Feels good!!!
Carolyn M's Story:
I have been overweight most of my adult life and have been a chronic dieter since my late teens - always gaining back more than I had lost. My highest acknowledged weight was 240 - I stopped weighing myself after that!
I was getting fatter and feeling more unwell with each passing year. When I hit the age of 50, I figured if I didn't try something different soon I would be feeling much older and sicker and "the golden years" would be less than golden.
I was introduced to LCHF in November 2015 - (thanks to a co-worker and her partner).
Since starting low carb, I feel so much healthier. I never feel hunger, where as in the past, I obsessed about food and felt constant cravings.
I have more energy, better mental alertness, no brain fog, better digestion (I was plagued with gastrointestinal complaints prior to this). It has changed my life for the better. I love the results, and I am so grateful to have been introduced to LCHF.
Over the past 20 years, my weight has always a bit up and down. The first time it really went up was after I quit smoking, my weight then crept up to 180. I tried weight watchers and I will be honest, I did have some success but counting everything and keeping such detailed records is not for everyone, and is difficult to keep up long term. Following that I used the South Beach Diet which was much easier to follow.
In 2010, I got pregnant (happiest day of my life) but everything I ate made me sick except for carbs. I wasn’t as active and combined with the habit of eating carbs again, the weight crept back up and stayed up after the birth of my son.
In November 2015 I came to a revelation that I had to lose weight for myself, I needed to feel better. My weight had crept up to the highest it had ever been.
Now 11 months later and 52 pounds less, I feel incredible. Love the fact that I fit into a size 9 again, I have more energy. My doctor advised me that I am within a healthy BMI and my cholesterol levels have never been better. This was one area that I was worried about where I eat higher fat foods but it shows the true success of this way of eating.
